Animation update!

Wow! This semester was crazy packed with projects! Here is my shot from the 129b intermediate cg animation class. The film follows a young girl who is trying to get to the birthday party next door but has been grounded by her evil parents because she didn't do her chores. My shot takes place during one of the main character's serveral attempts of trying to escape. During this attempt she's going throught the ventilation shafts within the house.

I would love critiques on this shot. During the last bit of working on it, I really felt like I was understanding the graph editor and how to animate using the computer.
Enjoy!

Round 2 for Capoeira design for a possible Kung Fu Panda

I got a bunch of great crits on my recent project. I love the creative collaborative element of my major.
One day, I plan on revisiting this project and do supporting work for the additional 4 members of Tai-Lung's Fearsome Five. Stay Tuned!

revisited again.

After aquiring lots of feed back from professors, classmates, and alumni I revisited this painting again.
I really enjoy the story I came up with for this project. Over the summer I plan on creating additional work that helps describe my vision of this project.
(Maybe even some story boards!! )

vis dev work update

The Project I am currently working on in vis dev is to create a character that would fit in an already existing 3D animated world.

I selected the world of Kung Fu Panda!

My concept is for a potential sequel in the Kung Fu Panda Franchise. The story is...Tai-Lung, the villian from the first movie, has scowered the world for it's most fearsome foes and has assembled a Fearsome Five to help him destroy Po, and the Furious Five of the Valley of Peace. They bring a more diverse view of martial arts into the world of Kung Fu Panda. Each of the Fearsome Five represent a form of martial arts from the continent they originate from.
From Brazil is Capoeira. A femal ant eater who is determined to prove to herself that she is stronger than men. Dishonored by stripping her of her gorging claws, the sign of pride in her culture, her father and chief banished her for challenging the social expectations of her gender. Now living a life of crime and violence, she will do anything, even perform villianous acts, to prove that she is stronger than those who disgraced her. Finally, she fashioned herself a pair of new claws, a reflection of how she sees herself, and uses them for fighting and scaling walls.
Here is a page of costume ideations inspired from Brazilian clothing.
I love the patterns and interesting shapes within the drappery.

A page of initial shape language research, and character exploration.

Long over due Update

Recently in my vis dev class we had to study the visual language of The 5th Element and create a location that would fit in the world but was not seen in the movie. I specifically focused on the interogation room within the Police Station.
This shot would take place in the movie after the fire fight in the airport breaks loose and the police have quelled the Mangelore uprising.
Before I found my focus, I did some quick value comps to try and capture the feeling of the 5th element's shape language.

Art Inspired by other Art 2

Astro told me to check out a tutorial by Dice Tsutsumi on his blog to help me with my painting.
It really got me thinking like a painter again. These are just some quick photoshop sketches trying to put what I was reminded of into use.

Art inspired by other Art

Quick photoshop sketch inspired by the singer Nancy Sinatra.
No idea how much time I spent on it, I just got really inspired by her hair on her album cover.
Also experimenting with a different brush in photoshop.
